The Coat of Arms
Silver with a chevron between three black birds. The colour Azure (Blue) symbolizes Loyalty and Truth, and reflects the hopes, ambitions and aspirations of its bearer.
The Family Name
The family name actually comes from the first name of the father of the original bearer, and is a surname found primarily in England. Spelling variations include: Lawson, Laweson, McLawson, Maclawson and others. It should be noted that Lawson family members have migrated through history thereby carrying the name to many areas. First found in in Yorkshire where they were seated from very ancient times, some say well before the Norman Conquest and the arrival of Duke William at Hastings in 1066 AD. Some of the first American settlers of this name or its variants were: Christopher and Thomas Lawson in Virginia in 1623, and Lettice Lawson in Virginia in 1638. Charles, Christopher, David, George, Henry, James, John, Joseph, Samuel, Thomas, William and many other Lawsons, all arrived in Philadelphia between 1840 and 1860.
