First found in in Yorkshire where they were seated from very ancient times, some say well before the Norman Conquest and the arrival of Duke William at Hastings in 1066 AD. Some of the first American settlers of this name or its variants were: Christopher and Thomas Lawson in Virginia in 1623, and Lettice Lawson in Virginia in 1638.
